Prism extension v1.2.1

Sync ShotRange

Syncs the Shot Range of Prism and the frame range of the latest Nuke scene of each shot, in whichever direction you choose.

What it solves

A frame range changes during production. It is fixed on one side, and the other side drifts until someone carries it over, shot by shot. The tool reads both sides, lists the shots where they disagree, and applies the correction in the direction you pick.

  • From Nuke to Prism, the Prism Shot Range is aligned on the frame range of the latest Nuke scene of the shot.
  • From Prism to Nuke, the Root node of the latest Nuke scene of the shot is aligned on the Prism Shot Range.

Using it

Pick a Prism project, click Scan. The tool reads both sides for every shot, the frame range of the Nuke scene modified most recently in its folder, whatever the department, and its Shot Range in Prism, then lists the shots where the two differ. Choose the direction at the bottom right, next to Apply. The columns always show what is about to change, the current value of the side being modified and the value it will have. Switching direction is immediate, with no need to scan again. Untick the rows you do not want, then Apply.

Nothing is modified until you click Apply. The before and after is visible for every shot, and a confirmation step comes before anything is written.

From Prism to Nuke, the .nk scenes are rewritten on disk. Close them in Nuke before applying, otherwise a save made from Nuke would overwrite the correction. Only the first_frame and last_frame lines of the Root node are touched, the rest of the scene is left alone.

Download and install

  1. Download the .zip.
  2. Extract it, right-click the .zip then Extract All. Opening the zip without extracting it is not enough.
  3. Double-click Installer.bat, then click Install.

The tool lands in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SyncShotRange with a Desktop shortcut, no Prism configuration file is modified, and the same installer uninstalls. The archive holds no executable, only scripts, and the install window opens with the Python and the Qt that ship with Prism, hence a download of under 200 KB and no SmartScreen screen to dismiss. Windows only asks for an ordinary confirmation the first time, because the file comes from the internet, and ticking Unblock in the properties of the .zip before extracting it avoids even that. The archive also holds a LISEZ-MOI.txt and the tool's own folder, for a manual install.

SHA-256 of the archive, to compare with Get-FileHash <file> -Algorithm SHA256.

Compatibility

Item Required Tested with
System Windows 10 64-bit (build 1809+) or Windows 11 Windows 11 23H2
Processor x86-64 (Intel / AMD)
Prism Prism 2.x Prism 2.1.2.1
Nuke All versions Nuke 11.2, 15.1 and 16.0

Worth knowing

  • All versions of Nuke, because the tool never opens Nuke and uses none of its APIs. It handles the .nk as text and works on first_frame and last_frame in the Root node, a format unchanged since the earliest versions.
  • Prism 2 only, because it imports PrismCore and uses its object-oriented API, where Prism 1 has a different architecture.
  • Windows only, and not arbitrarily, a Windows installer, a shortcut created through the WScript.Shell COM API, and a batch-script launcher that runs on the Python shipped with the Windows installation of Prism.
